Your Real Estate Agent: Finding "The One"

It's time to jump into the real estate market!  You're either ready to purchase your first home, move up to something larger, or downsize to something more manageable.

Having helped many buyers and sellers through the home sale process, here are a few qualities we think you should look for when choosing a real estate agent:

  • COMMUNICATION : We think this is probably THE most important quality in a good realtor.  Does he/she respond in a timely manner, and do they communicate with you in the manner you prefer?  If you're selling, your agent MUST be willing to field calls, texts and emails from potential buyers or their agents at all times, and if they cannot for some reason, had better be quick and consistent about returning those requests.  Everyone is busy, and not getting a response to a showing request or offer, could mean missing out on a potential buyer.  If you're looking for a buyer's agent, again, keeping you in the loop on a consistent basis will give you the best chance at finding your dream home and getting your offer accepted.
  • CONNECTIONS :  Does your agent have a great support network?  All agents have their preferred lender, escrow and title officers, but how well do they perform?  As a buyer, does the lender they recommend respond to your request on the weekend, and if they don't answer their phone, do they return your calls?  If you're a seller, will their escrow and title officers field questions and help you with the documents that you'll be required to fill out and sign?
  • CONSIDERATION :  Good manners, respect and consideration go a long way in getting a real estate transaction closed.  We've worked with countless realtors and brokers throughout our years in the business, and we've seen our share of both wonderful and not-so-great ones! The wonderful ones all have the basic respect and consideration for their clients and all the parties involved, and will make your home sale a memorable and enjoyable experience.
